Early 18th Century Wing Chair and Stool (18th century American)

An extremely rare early eighteenth century American easy chair and stool, the chair with unusual concave front rail and double cone ā€˜c’ scroll arms, both with cabriole legs terminating in pointed pad feet, the stool accented with stylised fetlocks.

The chair retains all the original upholstery and fragments of the original fabric. The stool most likely retains the original hair pad. Both have been recently re-covered to the highest conservation standards.

Possibly from Virginia

The chair has Mahogany cabriole front legs. The back leg and wing sections are of Ash, the seat frame is of Walnut, with Eastern White Pine arm scrolls, and an arm cone repair of Red Pine.

The stool has Mahogany cabriole legs. The frame is of American Walnut, with later corner blocks of Spruce.

Provenance Retained for several generations in the home of a Quaker family from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England and sold by their executors in 2001.
